Postpartum Counselling Home Visits

The weeks and months after having a baby are some of the most tender and transformative times in a woman’s life. Whether it’s your first baby or your third, the transition can bring challenges that often feel overwhelming.

For first-time mothers, the sudden change in identity, sleep deprivation, and learning to care for a new baby can feel like a shock to the system. For mothers welcoming a second or third child, there’s often the added challenge of balancing the needs of multiple children, shifting family dynamics, and the pressure to “cope better this time.”

In these moments, it’s easy for mothers to feel invisible, exhausted, and unsure of how to find their footing. This is where in-home counselling visits can make such a difference.

Why home visits matter

There is something powerful about being supported in your own space. Postpartum counselling at home offers:

  • Flexibility and realness: I can see what’s happening for you and your baby in real time, whether that’s feeding struggles, sleep challenges, or simply how your days are flowing.

  • Gentle presence: Sessions are slightly longer, allowing for the natural interruptions of tending to your baby. You don’t need to worry about rushing or apologising.

  • Comfort and nurture: I bring the (herbal) tea with me, so we can sit together in a way that feels less clinical and more like being held in a supportive conversation.

How counselling helps

Our work together is about creating space for you. We might explore:

  • The emotional ups and downs of postpartum life

  • Grief, guilt, or identity shifts that often surface after birth

  • How to regulate your nervous system when you feel depleted or overwhelmed

  • Building in small practices of rest and nourishment

  • Untangling cultural expectations that pressure you to “do it all”

  • Or whatever feels most important for you to talk about

There is also the option to include a birth debriefing session, where we take time to reflect on and process your birth experience in a safe, compassionate space. This can be deeply healing, especially if your birth was unexpected, challenging, or left you with unanswered questions.

A space where all of you is welcome

Postpartum counselling at home honours the reality of this season, in all it’s tenderness and messiness. It gives you permission to be fully yourself, to be witnessed in your experience, and to feel supported as you navigate this new chapter.
